(Sept. 25, 2013) – Another tough week for fans and media in our high school football contest, sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty, as for the first time in memory, no fan or media got more than 8 out of 10 correct. It didn’t help that Briar Woods football had its 32-game winning streak snapped or that Tuscarora beat West Virginia power Martinsburg or that Handley, highly thought of by the pickers, fell to Eastern View. And we didn’t even mention the Broad Run vs. Stone Bridge game where many Spartan supporters took a loss.
For the week, 15 fans went 8-2 with Tuscarora Bob of (course!) Leesburg winning the tiebreaker — and one of a kind Viva Loudoun t-shirt! — by picking Stone Bridge 35-14 over Broad Run when the final score was 33-14. For the season, there is a 3-way tie in first between B’Land Eddie of Broadlands, CockyBobcat of Leesburg and ValleyHokie of Purcellville, all with 33 wins in four weeks.
Season long winners will win cash prizes with the overall champion receiving $100, as well as $100 to their favorite local high school athletic program. Runner-up will get $50 and third place $25. Our overall winner will also win a haircut and shave combo to Roosters Men’s Grooming Center in Ashburn and Leesburg. (Email Viva editor Dan Sousa if you have a prize to add to our winners booty).
On the media side, the young guns sit up top now with Owen Gotimer of Viva Loudoun and Mike Stancik of Loudoun Times-Mirror, both with 31 wins on the year. Stancik and the much, much older “Fox” (Dan Sousa) of Viva Loudoun both went 8-2 on the week.
The season winner from the LoCo Experts will get $100 donated to their favorite charity.
