(December 18, 2013) – Woodgrove High School senior Brooke Packard has committed to continue her volleyball career at the University of Texas at El Paso beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year.
“It feels amazing to be committed to a Division I college,” said the 6-foot-1 Packard. “I am so excited and ready to move out to Texas already. I can’t wait to start playing for them. It’s the beginning of a new chapter for me.”
Packard noted she chose El Paso because it is closer to California, where she was born.
“I love the weather and the people. The atmosphere is all around great,” Packard said.
At El Paso, Packard will play middle blocker for a DI Miners team which finished the 2013 season 14-16 with a 7-7 record in Conference USA. On Nov. 21, El Paso lost to the University of Southern Mississippi, 3-2, in the first round of the Conference USA Championships. Packard hopes to improve on the Miners’ results in 2014.
“I believe that I will add excitement, endurance, precision, commitment and improvement for myself to go towards the team’s effort,” said Packard who plays club volleyball for Virginia Power.
Throughout her career, Packard received much support from her family and coaches, but said without her best friend Lindsey Littlefield she would have never had the opportunity to play at the college level.
“Lindsey is the person who got me started with volleyball in sixth grade,” Packard said. “She gave me motivation for myself to become a better and well improved volleyball player. Since then she has showed so much support, and I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it wasn’t for her.
“I am so proud to say that I am now committed and can thank her for it. There is always room for improvement. Just have to work hard and never give up.”
