Ashburn, Va. (September 17, 2014) — VivaLoudoun’s Top Ticket for Week 4 is none other than The Battle Of The ‘Burn.
It always means something when the Spartans of Broad Run High School (3-0) meet the Bulldogs of Stone Bridge High School (1-1). It doesn’t much matter which sport they’re playing. When the maroon and gold go head-to-head with the blue and silver, neither wants to go home with a loss — because the winners will be right next door to let them know about it.
Broad Run head coach Matt Griffis is the former quarterback coach and assistant of Stone Bridge head coach Mickey Thompson’s, while Thompson is a graduate of Broad Run. Both schools have brought recent state football championships to Loudoun.
The Bulldogs dominated the series until just last year, when the Spartans shocked their neighborhood rivals with a 23-21 win in the 5A North semifinals — ensuring the Bulldogs a single-digit win total for the first time in a decade.
Their first meeting since then will take place under Friday night’s lights. The showdown is huge and the stakes are high. VivaLoudoun is your embedded war correspondent for the 2014 edition of the Battle Of The ‘Burn, our Top Ticket Of The Week.
