VHSL 5A State Championship Football Game
By Jason Rufner
Ready for The Big One?
This week, VivaLoudoun’s Top Ticket Of The Week is more like our Top Ticket Of The Year. On Saturday, at noon, from Scott Stadium on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, the Huskies of Tuscarora High School (14-0, 5A North champions) — representing Leesburg, Loudoun and all of Northern Virginia — will play a football game that, if they win, will give them their first-ever state championship.
Nothing new to fans of Loudoun’s prep sports. Here’s how the local boys have done, making Loudoun look good (football-wise) in state championship games over the last eight years:
2007 — Stone Bridge won
2008 — Broad Run won
2009 — Broad Run won
2009 — Stone Bridge lost
2010 — Briar Woods won
2010 — Stone Bridge lost
2011 — Briar Woods won
2012 — Briar Woods won
2013 — Briar Woods lost
2014 — Tuscarora ???
We’ll fill in that last blank real soon — and we should have a lot of fun doing it.
The Huskies’ rival for the coveted title is L.C. Bird (12-2, 5A South champions) from Chesterfield in the Richmond area. A year ago on the same field, the Skyhawks came from behind to defeat Briar Woods, claiming their second straight state crown while handing the Falcons their first loss.
Now we get a rematch of Richmond and Loudoun — but this time, it’s the Leesburg team sticking up for the Rt. 7 corridor.
Viva Loudoun will be on the scene with reporting coverage by Jason Rufner with tweets, stats, quotes and full story, and photographic coverage from Steven Holland and Aaron Wyche, as the Tuscarora Huskies look to make their mark in the record book…in our Top Ticket Of The Year!
