(Jan. 28, 2014) – The Washington Redskins and Inova Blood Donor Services today announced their “Give Local, Save Local” campaign, which aims to drive awareness around the importance of blood donation by hosting a series of co-branded blood drives in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The next blood drive will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Washington Redskins locker room at FedExField.
All donors will receive a premium gift and earn the chance to win a signed, game-worn Joshua Morgan jersey. Morgan will also make a special appearance at the blood drive, as well as the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders and Miss Black Maryland USA.
“Growing up in Southeast D.C., I am excited to be part of something that will have such a positive impact on my hometown. I want to set example for everyone that it’s important to do everything you can to support your community, and giving blood is an easy way to do that,” said Morgan.
Inova Blood Donor Services supplies 24 hospitals in Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. metro area with lifesaving blood and blood products. One blood donation can save up to three lives.
To give blood, donors must be feeling generally well on the day of their donation, be at least 16 years of age (with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated whole blood in the past eight weeks (56 days) or double red cells in the past 112 days. The donation process takes approximately one hour.
Aspects of each potential donor’s health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination, during which temperature, blood pressure and hemoglobin (iron level) are measured. For more information about eligibility requirements or to sign up online, call 1-866-BLOODSAVES or visit www.inova.org/donateblood.
