Ashburn, VA (August 21, 2016) – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation hosted the Washington Redskins High School Coaches Clinic presented by Inova Sports Medicine on Thursday, Aug. 18 from 11 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Beginning at the Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park, participants watched walk-through in the indoor practice facility followed by a speaker’s panel in the auditorium and lunch in the Redskins dining room.
Approximately 100 high school coaches representing Prince George’s County Public Schools, Fairfax County Public Schools, District of Columbia Public Schools and Loudoun County Public Schools participated in the clinic including Tuscarora High School Head Coach Mike Burnett, 2015 Don Shula High School Coach of the Year.
“I learned a lot. When you’ve been a coach for a while, you go to a lot of coaches clinics. Just to hear the insight from professional coaches – I’ve met college coaches and high school coaches at different levels – but just to have professional coaches reiterate what you’ve learned over the years is always good,” said Dunbar Head Coach Jerron Joe.
The panel discussion was led by Redskins Former General Manager Charley Casserly. Panelists included Redskins Offensive Coordinator Sean McVay, Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry and Special Teams Coordinator Ben Kotwica. Along with Coach Burnett, Redskins Team Physician Dr. Brandon Bryant headlined the keynote speaker portion of the clinic. Special guests included Redskins President Bruce Allen and Head Coach Jay Gruden.
“Some of the most influential people in my coaching career were some of my high school football coaches. I think one of the things that we take for granted is where you’re able to be instrumental in these guys’ development at that high school level,” said McVay. “Some of those guys were very influential in my life and kind of shaped my core philosophy in what I believe in as a coach. I think it’s excellent that these guys get to come out here because we learn just as much from them as well.”
The Washington Redskins High School Coaches Clinic presented by Inova Sports Medicine is designed to promote health, character development, leadership and teamwork for high school players.
