Ashburn, Va. (February 17, 2015) – The Loudoun County Ashburn Library hosted a community event to support homebound seniors on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Over 55 children and parents gathered to create valentines for the 230 seniors served by the county’s Home Delivered Meals Program (HDM).
HDM volunteer Billie Jo Bevan and Ashburn Library’s Head of Youth Services, Jennifer Roy, coordinated the event and donated supplies for the volunteers to create colorful, heartfelt valentines.
American Heritage Girls Troop VA 1975 joined the effort and donated 90 cards to the cause. HDM volunteers will deliver the valentines.
Billie Jo and son Liam, volunteers with HDM since 2007, have learned the value of the gift of service. Billie Jo reports that “serving older adults with a noontime meal is extremely rewarding for us, and a thoughtful card or colorful drawing warms the hearts of these seniors.”
The Home Delivered Meals Program is administered by the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging. Anyone interested in volunteering even one hour a week (or month) to deliver meals and touch the hearts of Loudoun’s homebound seniors can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 703-777-0505.
