Ashburn, VA (May 23, 2016) – University of North Carolina volleyball’s incoming freshman class was ranked No. 3 in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com. It is the sixth time since 2003 that the Tar Heels’ recruiting class has appeared in the website’s top-30 rankings and the first time since the 2012 class earned the No. 8 national ranking.
According to PrepVolleyball.com, “The 2016 Tar Heel recruiting class is quite possibly the most decorated group to ever arrive in Chapel Hill. After graduating a 2012 class that ranked among PrepVolleyball’s Top 10, this new class has big shoes to fill and should have the talent to do so.”
Carolina welcomes a large group of newcomers for 2016, featuring a total of seven student-athletes. Julia Scoles (Morresville, NC) and Mia Fradenburg (Durham, NC) are already on campus, having enrolled in classes and begun training this past January, while Taylor Borup (Leesburg, VA), Holly Carlton (Sterling, VA), Katharine Esterley (Chapel Hill, NC), Mariah Evans (Colorado Springs, CO) and Greer Moseman (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) are due to arrive this summer.
The incoming class is comprised of four Under Armour High School All-Americans, including three of the top-25 individuals in the nation, according to PrepVolleyball’s list of Senior Aces. The signing class has won a combined 11 high school state championships, while Borup and Carlton teamed up for a club national title.
