(Sept. 12, 2013) – The issue of Loudoun County Public Schools students walking to their schools has been a h0t-button issue so far this school year and it surely will get a little hotter after two students were sent to the hospital Thursday morning after they were hit by a school bus while walking to Belmont Ridge Middle School in Lansdowne.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident. Reports are that the students involved are OK.
Loudoun County Public Schools issued the following statement from the school’s principal about the incident:
“Two Belmont Ridge Middle School students were involved in an accident with a bus while walking to school this morning on Upper Belmont Place. Both students were transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating exactly what happened. I cannot go into the details of the accident, but I can say that students who are in walk zones must use the marked crosswalks and take advantage of the crossing guards provided to assist them during arrival and dismissal times. I will be reviewing walking safety with our students and hope that you discuss this with your student at home.”
