Leesburg, Va. (December 31, 2014) – Loudoun County Treasurer H. Roger Zurn Jr. is warning taxpayers of a scam being perpetrated on Loudoun County residents.
A caller who claims to be with the Treasurer’s Office or with Loudoun County is telling taxpayers that their tax payments are overdue. The caller then asks for personal information, such as Social Security numbers and bank account numbers.
“We would never ask for personal information,” said Zurn. “Taxpayers should never give their personal financial information or Social Security numbers to someone over the phone.”
Zurn has notified the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office of the scam. Anyone who thinks they have been affected should contact Natalie Meyer with the Treasurer’s Office at 703-777-0660 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 703-777-1021.
