Ashurn, VA (December 5, 2014) – The Washington Spirit Under 14 Virginia and Under 15 Maryland Spirit Super Y teams head down to Florida to compete in the 2014 Super Y League North American Finals. The finals are presented by Nike and will take place at IMG Academy December 5-9.
The U14 Spirit Super Y VA team is coached by George Hales and trained out of Alexandria, VA in the summer of 2014. The U15 Spirit Super Y MD team is coached by Marcelo Gangotena, assistant coach Gabriel Ascunce and trained out of the Maryland SoccerPlex.
Spirit Super Y players on both teams are comprised of girls from all parts of Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C.–including Casey Flynn of Woodgrove, Kalie Ward of Loudoun County, and Morgan Kerns of Freedom High School. The teams will have the opportunity to showcase their talent to the multiple college coaches in attendance and the potential to earn Olympic Development Program (ODP) nominations.
The Washington Spirit Super Y program focuses their technical development model on the player centered approach, an age-appropriate technical and tactical curriculum, and a cohesive playing strategy that mirrors the professional team’s style of play. Spirit Super Y players receive the additional perks of being associated with the professional women’s soccer team; some of those include access to the professional players, symposiums, and tickets to the Washington Spirit home games.
After a successful 2014 season across all age groups and up to the professional team, the Spirit Super Y program is excited to announce tryouts for our 2015 Super Y teams in, which will include the new age groups of U10 and U11. Try-outs begin December 13 and continue through January 2015. Visit http://washingtonspirit.com/super-y/ for tryout information; http://washingtonspirit.com/super-y-faqs/ for Spiriti FAQs.
Good luck teams who are traveling and playing this weekend in Florida!
