(Oct. 10, 2013) – NOVA Roller Derby will hold its last mixer of the season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Michael and Son Sportsplex in Sterling and the Wizard of Oz themed-bout features The Flying Monkeys tangling with The Lollipop Guild.
All fans are encouraged to come in costume to celebrate Halloween early. Ticket prices are $10 in advance (buy them online) or $12 at the door. As always, children six and under are free. The Michael and Son Sportsplex (formerly Dulles Sportsplex) is located at 21610 Atlantic Boulevard in Sterling, VA. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Make sure to bring your own chairs and arrive early to snag your spots and grab pre-bout snacks. The first whistle will be at 5:30 p.m.
NOVA Roller Derby is family-friendly, so come enjoy the hard-hitting action and the festive atmosphere. Many of the skaters in this bout will be getting ready for the league championships in November. The Backwoods Rollers will try to unseat last year’s champions, The Vineyard Vixens in what’s sure to be an edge-of-your-seat event.
This bout will be played following the official rule set of Modern Athletic Derby Endeavor (M.A.D.E.)—a national affiliation of leagues promoting fair, skilled competition. NOVA Roller Derby has a charitable mission that focuses on supporting people and organizations that have an immediate impact on our community.
This October, NOVA Roller Derby is proud to be working with HomeAid as their charity of the month. HomeAid is a leading national non-profit provider of housing for today’s homeless. The organization builds and renovates multi-unit shelters for America’s temporarily homeless families and individuals, more than one million of whom are children, while they rebuild their lives. Fans are asked to bring a small toy to donate to this worthy cause.
After the bout, join the skaters as they return to Mahalo Cove for their after party. Located at 46300 McClellan Way in Sterling, Mahalo Cove offers music, drinks, delicious food, and the opportunity to meet and mingle with your favorite NOVA Roller Derby skaters and volunteers. Your admission wristband will get you in with no cover before 9 p.m.
