(December 7, 2013) – Stone Bridge High School senior Libby Haslett has committed to play volleyball at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014.
“It is a relief, it feels like a weight had been lifted and it feels nice to have accomplished this goal,” the 6-foot Haslett said. “I chose VCU because when I went for my visit I loved everything VCU had to offer. I like the school, the program, the coaches and the team so it all fell into place.”
The Division I VCU Rams finished the 2013 season at a remarkable 26-8 including an 11-3 record in the Atlantic-10 Conference. On Nov. 24, the Rams – including Freedom graduate Kaitlyn LaMantia – fell to Duquesne in the conference final.
“By joining the team I will work hard to not only improve myself but help my teammates improve and encourage them through it all,” said Haslett who was named second team All-Conference 14.
As an outside hitter, Haslett helped lead the Stone Bridge Bulldogs to a 26-3 record before they eventually lost to Atlee High School in the VHSL 5A state championship on Nov. 23 at the Siegel Center. Haslett will join Loudoun County High School senior Jane Feddersen in black and gold at the Siegel Center – where the Rams play their home contests – to play the next four seasons.
A native of New Orleans, Haslett has traveled the country moving from state-to-state before landing in Ashburn to play volleyball for Stone Bridge.
“I got started when I lived in St. Louis and a coach that I look up to inspired me to play and always work hard,” said Haslett who plays club volleyball for VA Power. “The quote ‘always make a difference in everything you do’ inspires me to work hard and always try my best and be able to impact a team in any way I can!”
