Ashburn, VA (June 4, 2017) – It was a battle of the best in VHSL 5A Northern Region Boys Lacrosse Friday night between the Briar Woods Falcons and cross town rival, the Stone Bridge Bulldogs. The Bulldogs came out shooting first with Christian Park (6) winning the face off and taking the ball to the next for the score. The Falcons came back a few minutes later with Sophomore Danny McMinn (9) answering the call to even things up at 1-1. After the tie in the first quarter, Stone Bridge went on to build up their five goal lead. After halftime, not sure what Falcons Head Coach, Bruce Lipson, said in the team room, but the Falcons had to prove they could come back. At mid-point of the fourth quarter the score was tied 8-8. Both teams were playing with everything they had and then some! The air was thick and the intensity on the field and in the stands was at its highest. By far one of the best boys lacrosse games this season. The Bulldogs called a time out with nearly 2 minutes left to huddle up to set up their strategy. The Falcons win the faceoff, but somehow Aidan FitzGerald (27) gets the ball and hurries it back down the sideline to his teammate, Luke Capace (19), who fires up his laser shooter and blazes the ball into the net past Falcons senior goalie, Will Juneau (10), to break the tie with less than a minute left. The Falcons get the ball back and Aaron Casteel (4) heads for the net. Before he gets there, his shot is blocked by a Bulldog defender with 1.5 seconds left. The Bulldogs hang on and take the 5A Northern Region title away from the Falcons. Both teams played their hearts out! The better team on the field last night was the Stone Bridge Bulldogs. Final Score: Stone Bridge 9 – Briar Woods 8.
