Ashburn, VA (November 22, 2014) The Stone Bridge Bulldogs grounded and pounded their way, rolling up 280 rushing yards to defeat the North Stafford Wolverines 44-29 in a 5A Regional Semi Final game last night. The Bulldogs will head to Massaponax next week, to face the Panthers, after their victory over Potomac Falls, 42-6.
The Bulldogs looked to establish the run early, by grinding out a run oriented drive capped off by a 5-yard TD pass from Stone Bridge QB Joe Thompson to Chance Frye. The Bulldogs tacked on a two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
North Stafford was initially up to the challenge, answering in the first quarter with their own drive and an 8-yard run by Harrison, and a matching two-point conversion for an 8-8 tie at the end of the quarter.
But Bulldogs must weather the cold better than a badger as Stone Bridge staked out a 30-15 lead by half time on two TD runs by Tanner Karafa, and a 61-yard TD pass from Joe Thompson to Andrew Ciampini. North Stafford added a score on the ensuing kickoff with 91-yard kickoff return by Norton.
Everyone cooled off at half time, as there were no scores in the third quarter. However, Collin Buckley got things going for Stone Bridge in the fourth quarter with a 4 –yard TD run. North Stafford then answered with a TD pass from QB Jimmy Edwards to Jalen Sarratt, closing the gap to 38-23. Buckley then added a 50-yard gash and a 44-23 lead. The senior tailback amassed 208 yard rushing for the night and two TD scores.
North Stafford valiantly continued the fight to the end, with Jalen Sarratt finishing with a 20-yard run for the games final score.
