Ashburn (June 1, 2014) – The Stone Bridge girls soccer team advance in the 5A North Region tournament with a 5-0 win against J.E.B. Stuart. Sophomore Lindsay Gallagher put the Bulldogs on the board two minutes into the game after she redirected a cross from sophomore Briana Alston. Ten minutes later, junior Carissa Showalter shot the ball and it was deflected away from the goal; however, junior Hayley Berry was there to put it in the back of the net. The Bulldogs scored one more time before the end of the half. Senior Nieko Ridley passed the ball to freshman Emily Fox who sent the ball past the Raiders’ keeper. Starting off the second half, Gallagher dribbled through some of the opposing defenders and scored her second goal of the night. Then with seconds remaining in the game, Fox shot a penalty kick that deflected off the goal post towards Ridley who was able to put the ball in the net for the final goal of the night. Junior Hailey Corpe had 10 saves on the night.
With the win, the team improves to 14-3-1 on the season and will travel on Monday night to Stafford to take on Mountain View in the Region Quarter Finals.
