(May 26, 2014) The Stone Bridge girls soccer team advance in the Conference 14 tournament with a 3-2 win in overtime against Broad Run. The Spartans scored in the sixth minute of the game and then again ten minutes later off a penalty kick. With twelve minutes left in the half, sophomore Briana Alston scored off a free kick to put the Bulldogs on the board. With three minutes left in the first half, Stone Bridge tied up the game when senior Nieko Ridley turned on a defender and sent a pass to freshman Alexandra Addington who took the ball into the goal box and shot the ball over the keeper. Both teams had opportunities in the second half to score. In the seventh minute of overtime, sophomore Brigitte Deel passed the ball to senior Nieko Ridley who dribbled the ball down the field and shot the ball pass the Spartans’ goalkeeper for the game winning goal. Junior Hailey Corpe had 10 saves on the night.
With the win, the team improves to 13-2-1 on the season and now advance to the Conference finals. They will travel to take on Briar Woods on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM.
