(May 26, 2014) – Two weeks ago on a rain soaked Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Stone Bridge High School Rowing competed in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, one of the oldest and largest high school regattas in the country.
Stone Bridge crews competed well with the JV girls 4 coming in 28th out of 61 crews and the mens varsity 4 placing 30th of 52 crews just 6 seconds away from advancing to the semi-finals.
The highlight of the day was the mens lightweight 4, coming in 7th out of 36 crews to advance to Saturdays semi-finals. Unfortunately, due to raising water conditions, the light weights were not able to test their speed against the top crews as the semi-finals were cancelled. Regatta organizers decided to run finals only on Saturday with only the top 6 crews competing.
This was Stone Bridge’s last regatta of season. The team will be losing several senior athletes that will be going on to row in college, including Catherine Cura (University of Virginia), Cameron Calpin and Taylor Henderson (George Mason University), Sean Suter (Clemson University) and Aaron Reif (Union College). However, we hope to have a strong team next year with several young athletes looking to build on their experiences from this season.
