(July 23, 2013) – Loudoun County residents may now register to vote and update their voter registration online. The State Board of Elections, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), launched the new online voter registration process Tuesday.
In order to complete the application process online, citizens must provide their Virginia DMV customer identifier number, which is displayed on DMV issued identification cards or driverâs licenses. Loudoun County residents who do not have a Virginia DMV customer identifier number may still fill out the registration application online, but will be required to print and return the completed application to the Loudoun Voter Registration Office.
All voter registration application submissions from Loudoun County residents are subject to review and approval by the Loudoun County General Registrar. Citizens will be notified directly via mail by the Loudoun Voter Registration Office once an application has been processed. Voters will also be mailed a new or updated voter registration card once the Loudoun General Registrar accepts the application or update.
Election officials say the new online registration, which was launched after recently enacted legislation sponsored by Delegate David Ramadan, will increase the accuracy of the voter rolls, leading to fewer problems and lines on election days.
