(May 31, 2013) – The AA defending state champion Woodgrove High School softball team needed a 15-strikeout performance from junior Jazmyn Rohrer and a game-wining RBI by junior Rachel Harris in the bottom of the 10th inning to clinch a return to the state tournament and a trip to Powhatan tonight to play in the Region II finals.
Rohrer allowed just five hits but the game was sent into extra innings after the Indians scored in the top of the sixth.
The bottom of the 10th opened with senior Alyana Furr reaching on a hit to shortstop. Senior Mackenzie Moler followed with a hit to shortstop and senior Ashley Cole’s bunt single loaded the bases with no outs. Harris then lined the second pitch she saw to left field to end the game.
Woodgrove opened the scoring in the fifth inning with a 2-out rally that started with junior Corinne Vennitti walking. She moved to second on a hit by Furr and then scored on an RBI by Moler.
Fauquier promptly tied it up with its own 2-out RBI as Kaitlyn Reid drove in Angelle Marshall with a hit to right field.
