Loudoun County, Va. (April 7, 2015) – Sheriff Mike Chapman proposed an unprecedented interim solution to a traffic issue and assigned a crossing guard to Creighton’s Corner Elementary School until the end of the school year in June.
The need was identified after he discussed crosswalk concerns with parents of children attending Creighton’s Corner Elementary School, as well as with Brambleton HOA Vice President Tony Buffington.
Crossing guards are not normally assigned to school zones until surrounding property is turned over to VDOT, crosswalks are painted, and a crossing guard position is officially applied for by the Loudoun County Public School system.
“Our children’s safety is of paramount importance,” said Sheriff Chapman. He added, “I am committed to do whatever it takes to resolve this issue in the near term, and ensure that we have a permanent solution, as well.”
The crossing guard position is expected to be temporarily filled after children return from Spring break on Tuesday, April 7.
