Highlights of Paul Grinups at the 2007 VHSL AAA state championships
(March 28, 2014) – Rock Ridge High School athletic director Patrick McNanley is a former wrestling coach so you knew he would make his school’s first ever wrestling hire a special one and McNanley delivered with the announcement Thursday that Paul Grinups has been hired.
Grinups wrestled and graduated from Westfield High School where he was a AAA state champion in 2007. Upon graduation, Coach Grinups went to Virginia Tech where he wrestled for Kevin Dresser.
He then spent two years as an assistant coach at AA power house Christiansburg and then two years as an assistant at Westfield before becoming Rock Ridge’s first head coach.
McNanley: “Coach Grinups is already working with the Ashburn Wrestling Club and excited to work with the student athletes of our community.”
McNanley said Grinups is enthusiastic and “has a lot of upside”.
Grinups was born in Philadelphia but was raised in Centreville. He also lived in Cape Town, South Africa for three years. He graduated Cum Laude with a degree in history and minor in political science from Virginia Tech.
