Ashburn, Va. (September 1, 2014) – Although the school year has not yet started and technically Rock Ridge High School doesn’t exist yet, their golf season is already up and running, with the team playing matches across the county.
On August 28, they competed against Loudoun Valley High School in a 18 hole match that Valley won by a score of 328-370. Brandon Yoon, a tenth grader at Rock Ridge, was the low medalist with a score of 71.
Earlier in August, Rock Ridge played Park View in a 9 hole match and won by a score of 184-242. Brandon Yoon was again the low medalist with a score of 34.
“Rock Ridge is a first year program with a lot of inexperience,” said head coach Tommy Heberer. His goal this year is not to worry about scores or results, but rather the process and learning how to play in competitive events.
Of the six players on the team, the only one with previous tournament experience is sophomore Brandon Yoon, who transferred over to Rock Ridge from Briar Woods High School after being a state qualifier as a freshman last year. Brandon is one of the top golfers in the county with top 10 finishes at the Charger Challenge and the Loudoun High School Championship, as well as finishing as low medalist in 5 of the 6 matches this year.
“With such a young inexperienced team, Brandon has taken on a leadership role that is helping our younger plays improve,” said Heberer, who looks forward to seeing Yoon compete in the postseason.
