Ashburn Va (November 7, 2014) – Conference play has ended and the volleyball season has moved into the regional level. Five area high schools have advanced into regional play in 3A East, 4A North, and 5A North regions. Matches start tomorrow and the top two teams from each region will advance to the state tournament the following week.
3A East – In 3A Loudoun Valley, who lost the conference tournament championship last night to William Monroe, brings their 10-8 record and legendary volleyball tradition into the regional tournament. Valley opens Tuesday at Kettle Run. If victorious they would then play the winner of the Armstrong vs. Lafayette match on Thursday. The 3A East regional schedule is listed below.
4A North – In 4a North perennial and defending state champion Loudoun County is again the top seed. County under first-year Sherrilyn Hanna are 24-2, only dropping matches to ranked powerhouses Stone Bridge and Flint Hill and enter the regional tournament with an 11 match winning streak and have only dropped two games in that stretch. Their road to state starts Tuesday at home against John Handley and then Thursday against the winner of the Faquier vs. Salem match. The 4A North regional schedule is listed below.
5A North – 5A North is the most crowded region with 12 teams, three from Loudoun County. Potomac Falls by defeating Freedom in last nights consolation match will open regional play at Brooke Point tomorrow at 6:00 pm. Briar Woods who lost to Stone Bridge in last night’s conference tournament championship also opens tomorrow at home hosting Edison. Stone Bridge, by virtue of yesterday’s win has a bye in the first round and opens Tuesday at home against the winner of thew Mountain View vs. Thomas Jefferson match.
All three teams are strong and the two Briar Woods vs. Stone Bridge matches were some of the best volleyball in the state. Feasibly Stone Bridge and Briar Woods could face off again next Saturday in the regional finals. The 5A North regional schedule is listed below.
