Loudoun County, Va. (October 18, 2014) – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) are teaming up to host Hometown Huddle, an annual health and fitness clinic, at Clinton Grove Elementary School in Clinton, Md. on Tuesday, October 21, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Since the NFL-United Way Hometown Huddle program launched in 1999, the Redskins have built youth fitness zones, hosted youth football clinics, rebuilt neighborhood playgrounds and upgraded fitness facilities in several Washington, D.C. metro area communities.
Hometown Huddle is part of United Way NCA’s acclaimed Fun, Fly & Fit program. In August of 2012, United Way NCA was awarded a $761,182 physical education grant from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE), which enabled United Way NCA to expand the program to 16 Prince George’s County public elementary schools year-round for three years. The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation is a supporting partner of the grant. Across the national capital area, 35,000 children have been reached by the Fun, Fly & Fit program.
This year’s recess event will include a school assembly featuring the “Get Fit stage show,” followed by a special recess for 30 students who have demonstrated strong academic and behavioral performance in school and the Before/After Care program. Students were selected for the recess event to recognize and reinforce positive behavior and enhance the climate and culture of the school.
