Their goal was to read 75,000 minutes in two weeks. If students met that goal, the principal, Carolyn Clement, would kiss a pig.
Not only did students meet that goal, they exceeded it. Therefore, it was decided the student in each grade level who read the most amount of minutes could kiss the pig too, or pick a staff member in the school to kiss the pig.
As the students were filling in the gym for the pig kissing, Clement was preparing herself by applying on bright red lipstick. Students chanted “Kiss the pig! Kiss the pig!” as the big moment drew near.
Parent Patricia Glaeser, from Faith Like a Mustard Seed Farm, provided the piglet to be kissed. The piglet, Lucky, was a male and only a few weeks old. He was carried in by Glaeser in a pink blanket.
Clement came in to the gym showing off her bright red lips. Then she kissed the piglet a few times and announced the students from each grade level who spent the most minutes reading.
