(March 29, 2014) – We are one step closer to crowning a winner in this year’s NCAA tournament, and we now know we will have a new champion as Kentucky knocked off defending champs Louisville in a thriller Friday night with a score of 74-69.
Also, the No. 1 Cavaliers from Virginia came up just short against the Michigan State Spartans 61-59. The Connecticut Huskies shocked Iowa State 81-76 and advance to play the Arizona Wildcats, who defeated San Diego State 70-64. The Michigan Wolverines outlasted the Tennessee Volunteers 73-71, Florida defeated UCLA 79-68, and Wisconsin knocked off Baylor 69-52. The other big headline of the week was No.11 Dayton outplaying No.10 Stanford 82-72.
With the current situation at hand, I’m starting to believe the Cinderellas will prevail.
Let’s look at Saturday and Sunday’s match-ups:
No.11 Dayton vs. No.1 Florida: Alright Gators, the road ends here. The Flyers are hot and deserve a spot in this year’s Final Four.
No.2 Wisconsin vs. No.1 Arizona: Again, I’m calling the upset here. The Badgers are going to the Final Four.
No.7 UConn vs. No.4 Michigan State: It’s over Sparty, the Huskies have a date with Dayton.
No.8 Kentucky vs. No.2 Michigan: The freshman Wildcats have proven themselves in defeating the defending champs Louisville. Kentucky goes to the Final Four to meet up with the Badgers.
These may be far fetched picks and wishful thinking, but anything can happen in March Madness. We saw it happen with Butler a few years ago and they may have come up short both times but this year may be different.
