Loudoun County, Va. (March 1, 2015) – Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue Robert Wertz Jr. reminds nonprofit organizations seeking exemption from local real estate or personal property taxes that they must file an application with his office by the April 1, 2015 deadline.
Most charitable nonprofit organizations are not automatically exempt from local property taxes in the Commonwealth, even those that may be exempt from federal income taxes. The filing of an application with the Commissioner of the Revenue is the necessary first step to obtaining a local real estate or personal property tax exemption. Completed applications should be returned to the Commissioner of the Revenue with a postmark by April 1, 2015 for consideration this year. Any exemption, if granted, would be effective January 1, 2016. Applications are available online at www.loudoun.gov/cor.
