Police are now looking for a 2002 silver Toyota Camry. They believe the escaped prisoner has stolen the vehicle and is still in the VA/MD/DC area.

Fairfax, Va. (March 31, 2015) – Roads around Inova Fairfax Hospital closed Tuesday morning after a prisoner armed with a gun escaped from the facility.
Police in Fairfax County warned residents and drivers around the hospital, which sits on Gallows Road in Falls Church, to expect traffic delays. There is a heavy presence of law enforcement authorities searching the hospital grounds and surrounding area for the prisoner, whom police identified as Wossen Assaye.
The hospital is on lockdown. Entrances and exits to the hospital’s grounds are closed. Several ramps from the Capital Beltway to Gallows Road are closed.
Several roads in the area that surround the hospital are also shut down. The road closures are continuing to change as authorities conduct their search. The closed roads as of 6 a.m. included Route 50 to Prosperity Avenue, Prosperity Avenue to Gallows Road, Gallows Road to Woodburn Road, Woodburn Road to Prosperity Avenue.
In a Twitter message, Fairfax Police said “as people leave home to head to work, expect traffic delays & heavy police presence. Be alert to your surroundings. Plz B patient with delays.”
It is not an active shooter situation, police said.
The scene around the hospital showed a heavy police presence.
Buses for Metro and the Fairfax Connector are experiencing delays along the roads around the hospital. For Fairfax Connector, the 401 and 402 bus routes are delayed. On Metrobus, the bus for route 1B is detouring around the road closures.
Assaye is wearing a hospital gown but no shoes, police said.
Assaye was in the custody of a private security guard, according to Fairfax police. He escaped from the hospital with the security guard’s gun. It is not clear how he got the guard’s gun.
