Leesburg, VA (March 5, 2015) – Here is how Heritage High School finished off its winter sports season: boys basketball lost to Sherando and girls basketball lost to Loudoun County both in the Conference 21 quarterfinals. The Pride wrestling team had six wrestlers compete in the 4A North Region Championship. The Pride boys swim team and placed 7th in the state. The Girls swim team won the Conference 21 and 4A North region titles and placed third at the 4A state meet. The gymnastics team won the Conference 21 title for the first time in school history.
Boys Basketball lost in the Conference 21 quarterfinal to Sherando, 66-52. They finished the regular season with a 2-19 record overall. After a horrible first half of the season the Pride performed well as a team in the second half. Although they went 2-8 after winter break, they got a lot better as a team, losing those 8 games by a single digit average. Senior guard, Morris Robinson, was named to the All-Conference 21 Second Team. Guard, A.J. Gray, will head to play at D3 Virginia Wesleyan next year. Also they look to return 9 of the 13 players on varsity, with four players graduating this year.
Girls Basketball fell in the Conference 21 quarterfinal to Loudoun County 69-43. They finished the regular season with a 6-15 record overall. Freshman guard, Julia Ng, led the team in average points per game (11.6), 3PT FGs (35), and free throws (55-71). Senior guard, Ashley Silvernale, was second in average points per game (8.5) and 3Pt FGs (22), she was also third in free throws (25-40). Also junior forward, Samantha Sills, was third in average points per game (7.5) and second in free throws (27-43). She was also named to the All-Conference 21 Second Team.
The Pride wrestling extremely improved from the 2013-14 season sending 6 wrestlers to regions up from 2 last season. The Pride who were represented in regions with their place at conferences: 106: Steven Figura (4th), 126: Zach Kirkpatrick (4th), 132: Jacob Holton (1st), 145: Nick Yagneh (4th), 152: Fletcher Davis (3rd), and 160: Beau Hogan (4th). With juniors Jacob Holton, Conference 21 Champion at the 132 lb. class, and Fletcher Davis, 78 career wins, coming back to lead the team next year; the Pride wrestling team has a bright future ahead of them.
The Pride boys and girls swim teams traveled to the state meet in Christianburg after the girls won the 4A north region championship. The girls’ team finished 3rd overall (Jamestown 1st, Tabb 2nd), and the boys’ team finished 7th. The girls’ 200 Medley Relay team (Carrie Lee, Madison McKay, Emilia Missing, Yaiza Kinney) won the State Championship. All five of the Heritage relay teams that made it to States advanced
from the preliminary round to the Final or Consolation round, and all Heritage swimmers who had qualified in individual events also made it to either the Final or Consolation round. Best individual results were Carrie Lee (2nd in 100 Butterfly and 2nd in 100 Backstroke) and Michael Burris (2nd in 200 IM and 2nd in 100 Breast).
The gymnastics team finished up their season at the 5A North Region meets after winning the Conference 21 title in February. At the region they placed 6th with a score of 122.88 overall. This past season senior Courtney Walker broke to All-time Pride records with 8.15 on bars and a 34.15 in the All Around. The Pride have a couple young gymnasts who will look to take the spotlight next season.
