(July 17, 2014) – Potomac Falls High School graduate Dominique White has committed to continue her basketball career under head coach Didi Cotton at Goucher College starting in the 2014-2015 academic year.
“[It] feels exiting and anxious to see what a new level of basketball has to offer me,” said the 5-foot-1 White.
White will try to help turn around the Division III Gophers’ program this winter when she travels to the small-private school in Towson, Maryland. Last winter, Cotton – who played for Goucher during her collegiate days – led the Gophers to a 6-18 mark including a 2-12 record in the Landmark Conference. However, Goucher’s young team only saw two seniors graduate this spring.
“I feel as though I will add more than my defenses skills and my three point shot, but also positive energy and leadership,” said White who will play point guard for the Gophers.
As a team leader, White helped the Potomac Falls Panthers and head coach Lynn Ewald to a 9-13 finish in the 2013-2014 season including a Conference 14 win over Broad Run on Jan. 11 after moving to Virginia from her birth state of Texas.
“It was very different compared to Texas basketball, but I loved it either way I loved my coaches and also my teammates,” White said.
While originally training to be an athlete in Texas, White’s mom got her started in basketball around nine years old.
“She keeps me motivated,” said White who also said that those who underestimate her motivate her. “I play basketball because I love it. There’s never a dull moment and something’s always happening.”
White should not see a dull moment while playing for 10th year head coach Cotton and said that Cotton along with the rest of the team were secondary reasons for choosing Goucher.
“Academics come first!” White proclaimed.
