Lansdowne, VA (June 2, 2017) – Their previous match had been a cakewalk so the Riverside Rams had not yet been tested in their first ever regional tournament. Would the York Falcons provide stiffer competition?
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Although the Rams dominated possession, the Falcons were clearly a better prepared side at every position than the previous opponent. Riverside had numerous first half chances, but the York defense had just enough to keep the sheet clean through the first half, which ended in a 0-0 tie.
The tight contest continued well into the second half, and only a brilliant save by Rams keeper Jack Cisneros kept the score even.
Finally, Cameron Davis scored to give Riverside a slim lead. With time running out, Chris Castro broke down the left wing and sent a low cross toward the middle and the waiting Michael Zhang who crushed it home and sent the Rams to the regional final.
Final score: Riverside 2 – York 0.
