Middleburg, VA (May 13, 2015) – Defending state champion Foxcroft unleashed its powerful offense against overmatched Trinity Christian (Fairfax) and rolled to an 18-3 victory Tuesday to reach the semifinals of the VISAA Division II state championships for the fourth consecutive year.

Foxcroft, which has been the top-ranked team in VISAA Division II all season, will meet fourth-seeded Virginia Episcopal in Friday’s semifinal match on the campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. Highland School, which Foxcroft beat 12-11 last Friday to win the Delaney Athletic Conference tournament, is the No. 2 seed and also advanced Tuesday, moving the two teams a step closer to a championship game face off. Foxcroft has defeated Highland three times this season, but each game has been closer than the previous.
Against Trinity Christian Tuesday, nine players scored for Foxcroft, which raced to a 15-1 halftime advantage then put on the brakes as coaches Patrick Finn and Michelle Woodruff substituted freely in the second half. Defensive players, including goaltenders Marley Blycher and Marias Blundell played some offense and Delaney Athletic Conference Player of the Year midfielder Alex Grace, who scored six first-half goals, took a turn in the goal near the end of the game.
“There isn’t much you can gain from a game like this,” Finn said. “It gave our girls a chance to run around a little bit and some players who normally play defense to get a chance on offense. We know the competition will get tougher and we have two days to prepare for our next opponent. We also will prepare for what we know about Highland.”
