Ashburn, VA (October 20, 2015) – Viva Loudoun photographer, Steven Holland, photographed the Stone Bridge vs. Broad Run “Battle of the Burn” football game on Friday, October 16th and posted a photo gallery with 540 images.
The Bulldogs hosted the Spartans for another big battle between the two rival schools. With Broad Run sporting a 6-0 record and an outstanding offense with Running Back, Meech Hembry, the Bulldogs had to come in with the strongest defensive game of their season. And they did! They limited Hembry to minimal yards. The game leading rusher was Stone Bridge’ Joshua Breece with 42 carries for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bulldogs finished off the second have stronger on defense. I’m not sure what Head Coach Mickey Thompson or Coach RJ Windows, Bulldog Defensive Coordinator, told his guys, but they came out fired up and made key tackles, sacks and interceptions to seal the win 27-13 to move above .500 with a 4-3 record. This was the first time I have ever seen so much exuberance out of Coach Windows on the sidelines and partially on the field after each turn over on downs. He was patting helmets and shoulder pads of multiple defensive players commenting on the outstanding work they were doing. Not only were the players fired up, but the coaches were too.
The Spartans had difficulty executing their offense once Hembry was banged up (foot and shoulder), but he continued to play for his teammates with shear dedication. Broad Run is a good team with a lot of talent and character, but it just wasn’t their night.
