Intensity was the name of the game right from the start

Brambleton, VA (Apr 6, 2016) – It was an unusually cold and blustery evening, but both the Briar Woods Falcons and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs were coming in hot. Briar Woods, the host, was sporting a 6-1-0 record while Stone Bridge, the visitor, was 5-1-1. Chas Sumser was there to cover the action and posted a gallery of 120 images.
Most of the first half play was in the Stone Bridge end. That was due to two factors: Briar Woods’ outstanding control of the midfield and a prevailing wind headed directly into the Bulldogs’ goal. Give credit to the visitors as their defense gamely thwarted every attack. That is, all but one. Late in the period, Abby Maltese launched a shot from 25 yards out that cleared the outstretched arms of Stone Bridge keeper Nikita Sharif and just under the bar.
Things turned around somewhat after the break. Stone Bridge, which hadn’t had many chances, finally found their offensive legs and put greater pressure on the Falcon back four. And early in the half, Stone Bridge struck virtually the identical shot, but this one hit the left post and bounced harmlessly away. After that point, both teams had a few chances, but none would connect with the net.
Final score: Briar Woods 1 – Stone Bridge 0.
