Purcellville, VA (January 17, 2017) – Entering the Loudoun Valley gym, Rock Ridge knew that this was going to be a tough one. Sporting a solid 10-3 record of their own, the Phoenix hoped to avenge a 32-point loss to Loudoun Valley just ten days earlier. With playoffs looming large, this was their chance to measure up one more time against the undefeated Vikings.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
As the game opened, Valley surged in front, but could not shake Rock Ridge and held only a slim (14-12) lead at the end of the first quarter. But Loudoun Valley turned on tremendous defensive pressure and opened up a 19-point margin by halftime, 40-21. Just that fast, the Vikings had put the game out of reach.
Getting contributions from everywhere, Loudoun Valley continued the onslaught in the second half. Rock Ridge never gave up, but the Vikings controlled the entire court with great shooting from outside the arc, dominating drives to the basket, and relentless pressing defense.
Final Score: Loudoun Valley 75 – Rock Ridge 36.
