Salem, VA (June 9, 2017) – The day broke with much promise for the Riverside Rams. Playing in their first ever state semifinal, could they upset the top-seeded Warriors from Western Albemarle?

Sporting a record of 20-2 entering the match, the Warriors were clearly the favorite. But, for much of the first half of this match–played in beautiful Salem, VA–the underdog Rams held their own.
The number of scoring chances began to grow for Western Albemarle while the Rams had very few with potential. And, finally, the Warriors struck with a crushing blow from about thirty-five yards out which glanced just under the bar.
Although the halftime score was only 1-0, the Rams could barely get close to scoring in the second half while the Warriors put away two more including one on a beautiful and powerful header.
Riverside ends a fantastic season while Western Albemarle heads to the state championship match. But, even in their disappointment, the lady Rams were in the stands to cheer on their soccer brothers from Riverside in their own semifinal game.
Final score: Western Albemarle 3 – Riverside 0.
