Ashburn (August 28, 2015) – The Riverside High School Rams and the Rock Ridge High School Phoenix open the 2015 football season in the first varsity game ever for both teams. Chas Sumser captured the action on Friday, August 28, and posted this photo gallery including 141 images.
On a spectacular late summer evening, the Phoenix kicked off to start a first quarter that was largely played at the 50-yard line as both teams had trouble moving the ball. The second quarter opened up a bit and Rock Ridge held a 14-6 halftime lead after a dramatic, last second and long touchdown run. But the Rams tied the score early in the 3rd quarter on a blocked punt and a two-point conversion.
Both teams would get a third touchdown and as regulation time ended the score was tied at 21. Riverside scored on their first possession to take a 28-21 lead, but Rock Ridge also scored and aggressively went for the win with a two-point conversion of their own. As a result, Rock Ridge gets the first win in school history in front of a boisterous home crowd.
