Ashburn, VA (Apr 1, 2016) – The Rock Ridge High School Phoenix hosted the Park View High School Patriots for an early season girls soccer matchup. The rain threat was taken care of in the second half of the JV game, so the varsity girls got the benefit of nearly perfect weather for soccer. To say that Jordan Landrum was brilliant in the Park View goal would be an understatement. Time and again her fingertips parried away a hard Phoenix shot or thwarted an attack from a speedy Rock Ridge forward. Yet, with the second goal going in just as the whistle sounded, she found her team behind by two goals at the end of the first half.
Throughout the game the majority of the play was in the Patriots’ end, but the visitors’ collective determination kept the score from being even more lopsided. On the flip side, Rock Ridge featured emerging skill, powerful technique and a solid team-oriented and controlled concept that never gave Park View a sniff of the Phoenix goal, which may represent the first glimpse of a “rising” powerhouse. A third goal for Rock Ridge early in the second half put the game out of reach.
Final score: Rock Ridge 3 – Park View 0.
