Leesburg, VA (January 20, 2017) – This game had potential. The Park View Patriots entered with an 11-5 record, one of the better late season marks in the school’s girls basketball history. But they were up against the Loudoun County Raiders who, at 15-1, were not only riding a fourteen-game winning streak, but had also beaten the visitors by twenty-four points less than a month ago.

The first five points of the game went to Park View, but by the end of the opening quarter–and largely behind their stifling, pressing defense–Loudoun County had taken control at 18-11. It was no easy task getting there, but the Raiders earned it against the scrappy Patriots.
The second and third quarters were almost identical in their pace and progress. At the beginning of each quarter the Raiders extended their lead hoping to get comfortable, but the Patriots battled back only to have Loudoun County hold them off. In the third quarter, Park View cut the lead to two points, but when the quarter ended it was back to six.
The final quarter started the same, but the ending was very different. At first, Loudoun County had control, but gradually Park View whittled the lead down and with two minutes remaining they had the game tied. Remarkably, their already intense defense stepped it up a notch and forced the Raiders into uncharacteristic turnovers. As all good teams do, Park View hit their foul shots in the closing seconds to seal a stunning victory, 58-54.
