Ashburn, VA (Oct. 24, 2015) – The Oakton High School Cougars visited the Broad Run High School Spartans for the first game ever played on the home team’s brand new turf field. Under bright and chilly conditions and surrounded by a raucous Homecoming crowd, Chas Sumser captured the atmosphere and action on Friday, October 23, posting this photo gallery of 178 images.
A game that was tied at halftime, 0-0, opened up into an overtime thriller. For much of the game both teams seemed content to pound the ball on the ground and trade short drives for field position.
Broad Run scored midway through the third quarter, and it looked like that single touchdown might be enough. Then the contest got really interesting with each team scoring three more touchdowns including one for Oakton and two for Broad Run in the extra period. In the end, the Spartans appropriately christened their new home field with a 28-21 victory.
