Lansdowne, VA (June 7, 2017) – An air of excitement permeated Riverside stadium as the home-standing Rams prepared for their state semifinal lacrosse game against the visiting Monticello Mustangs. The Rams’ previous playoff games had been blowouts, but this one–with so much on the line–would surely be different.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Well, not so much. Behind five goals from Rachel Giachinta and a seven-goal scoring run to open the game, Riverside was just too much for Monticello. Although the Mustangs scored twice in the first half, the Rams went on another streak, this time for six goals.
It was over at halftime with Riverside leading 13-2. They then eased to victory and on to Salem for the state final.
Final score: Riverside 18 – Monticello 6.
