Aldie (May 28, 2015) – In a rematch of the 2014 Conference 28 girls soccer championship match, Loudoun Valley High School visited John Champe High School for the 2015 version. Chas Sumser photographed the game on Friday, May 29, and posted this photo gallery with 121 images.
The first quarter of play was a taut, tense battle between two equally matched teams. Back and forth it went until John Champe was able to break the ice at the 25 minute mark. But the Vikings were not to be outdone and found the equalizer just seven minutes later making the halftime score 1-1.
Well into the second half, it looked like the teams were headed to overtime. Loudoun Valley had other ideas though and took what looked like a decisive 2-1 lead with twelve minutes left. That plan was overcome, however, when a foul in the box led to a successful Knights penalty kick and the dream of overtime became reality.
First overtime no change. Second overtime still the same. Sudden victory in the third overtime? Well, that went to the visitors who are on their way to the regionals with a fresh conference championship in hand, 3-2.
Both teams advance to 3A regional play.
