Sterling, VA (July 21, 2016) – The 10U Loudoun Liberty of the Western Loudoun Girls Softball League won the 2016 PONY East Zone National Championship by defeating the Team Long Island by the score 2-1.
The 10U Liberty battled a 12 game 5 day stretch of softball in sweltering heat to capture the championship Wednesday afternoon, July 20th a Claude Moore Park in Sterling, VA. After splitting the first 2 days of pool play over the weekend, the Liberty entered single elimination bracket play Monday morning and never looked back. The team completed their championship run by going 8-0 over the final 3 days and finished with an outstanding 10-2 tournament record. The National Championship crown topped off what has been one incredible inaugural season.
The 5 day PONY Tournament included 11 teams from up and down the east coast. Teams from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Virginia all traveled to compete.
The 10U Liberty complete their 2016 season with an amazing 32-3 record, and one runner-up finish and 4 titles in 5 tournaments over their final 35 games.
