Ashburn, VA (Oct. 17, 2015) – The Loudoun County High School Raiders visited the Rock Ridge High School Phoenix for a rare October afternoon tilt. Under bright sunny skies, and amidst a steady chilling wind, Chas Sumser captured the atmosphere and action on Saturday, October 17, posting this photo gallery of 129 images.
On Senior Night (actually, Day) the Knights came out charged up scored first, while missing the extra point, to take a 6-0 lead. They held the Raiders in check temporarily, but soon gave up two touchdowns and the lead. Loudoun County led at halftime, 14-6.
The home team seemed fired up to open the third quarter only to give up a fumble on their first two drives, and the visitors capitalized on both, taking a commanding 27-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
But, just when you thought it was over, the Phoenix rose and pulled the margin back to less than a touchdown, 27-21. And sure enough, the Raiders coughed one up of their own and gave the ball back to Rock Ridge with just a few minutes to play and deep in their own zone. A pick-six later, and the chance of a home team win were denied. Final score, Raiders 34 – Phoenix 21.
