Ashburn, VA (April 30, 2017) – A forty-five minute rain delay created an unusual start time for this highly anticipated matchup of two great LCPS boys lacrosse teams.
After a brief thunderstorm that created steamy conditions, the visiting Loudoun County Raiders and the host Briar Woods Falcons went to work at 10:45 on a Saturday morning. Both teams had suffered just one defeat in this rapidly concluding season so the victor would surely feel a good bit of momentum for the playoffs.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
The opening quarter was a tense and taut affair, as one would expect, with the Raiders scoring first and the Falcons tying it up before the break. At that point you could easily see this one headed to overtime.
But although County scored in the second quarter, they would never crease the net again. Briar Woods surged to a commanding 5-2 halftime lead and established total dominance on their way to a resounding win.
Final score: Briar Woods 11 – Loudoun County 2.
