Purcellville, VA (September 16, 2016) – Coming in to the game, the home-standing Loudoun Valley Vikings were undefeated at 3-0. Not only that, but their margins of victory were 31, 15 and 18, in that order. The John Champe Knights were sure to be a true test, but the men in green had earned the right to be confident.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted this gallery of images from the event.
At the end of the first quarter, the Knights had a small, if not commanding lead at 7-0. But the Vikings tied it up with an early second quarter touchdown. However, Champe drove for a late field goal and took a 10-7 lead and the momentum into the locker room
Early in the third quarter, the Knights had the Vikings in a third and nineteen situation, but Loudoun Valley suddenly completed a long bomb down the left sideline to take a 14-10 lead. That go-ahead score could have knocked out a lesser team, but the Knights put a huge drive together to take the lead back at 17-14.
Neither team would score again, and as the final horn sounded the Knights celebrated a tremendous and difficult road win.
