Leesburg, VA (Apr 26, 2016) – Entering the game, the John Champe Knights were undefeated and the Loudoun County Raiders had won six in a row after a relatively slow start to the season. Something had to give. Chas Sumser was there to cover the action and posted a varsity gallery of 103 images and a JV gallery of 60 images.

As the season progress you can just see JV teams maturing as they get accustomed to the rigors of daily practice and the challenge of more physical play. This game was a good example of that process as both teams move the ball around the field effectively and efficiently. The Raiders were just a bit the stronger side, and the outcome reflected that edge.

Missing a couple of key players, the Knights were going to have to fight hard to stay in this game, and they went toe-to-toe throughout the first half. With the score tied at 0-0, it was anyone’s game after the break.
A scintillating goal from Allyson Brown put the Raiders up at the ten minute mark, but Champe earned a penalty kick just a few minutes later bringing an opportunity to even the score again. Their chance to tie the game went for naught when Loudoun County goalkeeper Hannah McShea deflected the shot wide of the net.
Loudoun County doubled the margin on a goal from Melissa Hoffheins, but the Knights weren’t done yet. A late game free kick led to a goal by Julie Cumins, and a frantic last few minutes came up just a bit short.
