Sterling, VA (Oct. 16, 2015) – The John Champe High School Knights visited the Dominion High School Titans for a cool fall evening match-up, and Chas Sumser captured the atmosphere and action on Friday, October 16, posting this photo gallery of 172 images.
In front of stands full of pinked-out students and cheerleaders, a raucous band, the national anthem from the full school choir, the Titans came to play. Perhaps slightly underestimating their opponent’s readiness, the Knights were on their heels for most of the first half. Dominion scored a touchdown early in the first quarter and, surprisingly, maintained the lead into the halftime locker room.
But Champe made the needed adjustments and immediately tied the score early in the third quarter. Undaunted, the Titans turned right around and scored again retaking the lead at 14-7. It looked like the game might end that way, but the Knights had a different idea, tying the game late and sending the night into overtime.
On their first possession in extra time, Champe scored a touchdown taking the lead for the first time all night putting the pressure squarely on the Titan offense. Despite their best efforts, the home team couldn’t rally one last time, sending the Knights away victorious and still undefeated. Final score, 21-14.
