Lansdowne, VA (June 1, 2017) – As soon as the field cleared after the Riverside Rams girls lacrosse team won their regional matchup, their male counterparts raced on to the turf to start warmups. In front of them were the Freedom Eagles who would try to block the Rams from matching the girls’ success.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
The Eagles raced out to a 2-0 lead perhaps catching the Rams off-guard. But by the end of the first quarter, Riverside had pocketed three unanswered goals to go ahead by 3-2 at the break. The teams battled back and forth and at halftime there was no separation at 5-5.
Momentum shifted to the Rams in the third quarter, and Riverside took a lead that they would never relinquish. Two more quick Ram goals to open the fourth period sealed the deal despite two goals for Freedom.
Final score: Riverside 11 – Freedom 8.
